David Wainaina

David Wainaina

by Peter Kimeu / Thursday, 14 January 2021 / Published in STEM 2020/2021

My name is David Wainaina, I’m a graduate of Egerton university where I studied Agricultural Engineering. I’m the current STEM staff of Taita Taveta University, Coast Institute of Technology, and KMTC Voi. I formerly served at UoN Lower Kabete and KTTC. I’m in a relationship with Joy Kangai and we are trusting God to settle in marriage.

I’m a 1st born in a family of four siblings; three brothers and 1 sister, my parents separated when I was only six years; I grew up at my grandmother’s place. Growing up I had a lot of bitterness and resentment toward my parents but I thank God that our relationship has really improved in the past year. I am grateful to my team leader for journeying with me on this path of forgiveness and reconciliation.

In my family, we brew illicit liquor (chang’aa & Busaa). At a young age, I became an addict because of the environment that I was in. It was a great struggle but God delivered me when I was in form two. You can pray for my family members to get born again and also for the provision of an alternative source of income.

I got born again when I was in form two but I didn’t understand the concept of salvation, all I wanted from God was to help me pass exams and have a good life. After passing my exam I went back to my sinful state. I rededicated my life to Christ in my first semester in campus and found good roommates who walked with me and mentored me. The Bible study meetings in The Christian Union on campus provided a very rich ground for me to grow in my salvation journey.

When Mercy, my team leader informed me that I was going to do a second term it didn’t come as a shock to me. God had already prepared my heart for this. To me, the call to serve for another term in STEM was a great privilege. I knew it was a chance to continue experiencing growth, accountability, friendship, mentorship, and character development.

In my first term in STEM, I experienced tremendous growth in my spiritual life and great transformation in many aspects and I am looking forward to continuing developing the disciplines that were inculcated in me. I desire to grow more in my reading culture, interpersonal skills, personal planning and financial management. I am also looking forward to being involved in the lives of students, to disciple and mentor them, and to model them to mature leaders.

Pray with me to have a fruitful ministry and to be faithful with the responsibility at hand. Pray that God will open doors for ministry opportunities in Taita Taveta University.
