Joseph Opanda Namutala is the Deputy National Director. Joseph graduated with Bsc. Physics from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). He joined Short Term Experience in Ministry (STEM) and he was based at Njoro Campus of Egerton University. He thereafter went to Norway for ten months where he worked with Christian Students in one of the Universities. After coming back from Norway in June 2008, Joseph worked as a volunteer with the 2008 Commission Conference Desk until February 2009. He joined the staff team as a Campus Ministry Facilitator in April 2009. He was the Commission 2011 Conference Deputy Director. He is married to Ruth Muthoni and they have two sons.
Evans Karanja is currently the Short Term Missions Director and the Campus Ministry Facilitator (CMF) for University of Kenyatta University Main and Ruiru Campuses’ Christian Unions. He joined FOCUS in 2010 as the STEM Staff for Moi University- College of Health Sciences and the School of Law Christian Unions. In 2011-2012 he was a FOCUS Exchange Participant to Norway. He is a graduate of the University of Nairobi in Agriculture (Crop Protection) and holds a diploma in Cross Cultural Communication and International work from Hald International Center, Norway. “If I can inculcate godly values in them, mentor them and challenge them to address societal problems from a biblical perspective, I have hope of a morally upright society. For this reason, I find joy in serving here at FOCUS Kenya.”
Grace Ndirangu- Kinyua is a graduate of Moi University in Applied Statistics with computing. She served as STEM Staff for KTTC and St. Paul’s University in 2011/2012 and later proceeded for the NKSS Exchange program (2012/2013) in Norway. She also serves as the regional coordinator for Northern Nairobi region, as well as CMF for Thika and Murang’a CUs. Currently, she serves as the Finance & Admin Director. “I believe that students’ ministry is very strategic in impacting the society. My life was greatly impacted by FOCUS staff. I believe serving in FOCUS gives me an opportunity to make an impact among students I interact with.”
Peter Kimeu is the Corporate Affairs and Partnerships Director and the Campus Ministry Facilitator at the University of Nairobi (Parklands Campus) He served in other positions in FOCUS including the STEM Coordinator, Regional Coordinator Pwani Region and as a STEM staff 2009-2010 based in Medical School and Kenya Polytechnic University College. He is a BEd (Mathematics and Physics) graduate from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST). Post Graduate Diploma in Theology (JETS), A+, N+ and CIP from IAT He had a one-year stint at the Institute of Advanced Technology ( IAT), Thika Road Campus before rejoining the FOCUS staff in 2012. He is married to Phoebe Misente.
Ben Birgen is a graduate of Maseno University in Pharmaceutical Science with Information Technology. He is CMF in Mt Kenya region. He served as STEM Staff for UoN Kikuyu Campus in 2014/2015, and later as the first STEM Staff for Maasai Mara University CU in 2015/2016. “My greatest motivation in students ministry is the amazing love of God towards humanity, it is my desire that I should lead many to Christ, to equip many to Christ-likeness and to open the eyes of many students to the amazing love of God that has set us free from sin thus we have received a new life in God as new creation.”
Issa Gachanja is a graduate of Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Nairobi. He joined FOCUS for the 2016/2017 STEM year. He served as STEM Staff in Central Rift Region for Egerton University Njoro Campus and Rift Valley Institute for Science and Technology. Afterwards, between 2017/2018, he was on the FOCUS/NKSS exchange program in Norway. Currently, he is serving as the Assistant Missions and Evangelism Coordinator. He is also the CMF for the Cooperative University of Kenya and other Christian Unions in Karen. “I believe that Student ministry is strategic in global evangelism because of the diversity of students and the likely impact they are to have in society during and after their years in school.”
Fredrick Abuya joined FOCUS Kenya in 2012 as STEM Staff for UoN Kikuyu Campus, Africa International University and Presbyterian University of East Africa Christian Unions. He later served for 2 years as CMF in Pwani Region then moved to Nairobi for his current role. He is the Assistant Research and Publications Officer as well as CMF in the Southern Nairobi Region. “My motivation in student ministry is a desire to see young people in institutions of higher learning trained, mentored and ‘discipled’ to become salt and light in our society.” Fredrick is a graduate of Moi University in Agricultural Biotechnology.
Charles Otieno Ondiek holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST). In 2015/2016 he served in Pwani Region as STEM Staff based in Kilifi. He later joined the FOCUS team in August 2018 as CMF for MMUST, KMTC Kakamega, Bukura Agricultural Training College, Kibabii University and Kibabii Diploma Teachers Training College among others in the Western Region. He is married to Rose Tracy Otieno. “My greatest motivation in students’ ministry is the desire to see the lives of students transformed for the glory of God in terms of discipleship and mentorship. This will help them develop Godly convictions and lead lives that has eternal value. This is because my life was transformed while in campus. I was discipled, trained and mentored to who I am today
Jacob Gathuita joined FOCUS 2014 as STEM Staff for Machakos and Daystar Universities. Later, he served as the STEM administrator and CMF based in Nairobi. He later moved to the Pwani region where he served as CMF for CUs in Kilifi, Mombasa and Kwale Counties. He currently serves as the Regional Coordinator Southern Nairobi Region He holds a bachelors degree in Education Arts (Geography and Kiswahili) from the University of Nairobi. He is married to Ann Wanjiru and together serve the Lord. “My greatest motivation in students’ ministry is that it is God’s work and It is strategic in nature.”
Japheth Rwoti is the Regional Coordinator for Mt. Kenya Region. He serves Christian Unions in Nyeri, Karatina, Othaya, Kirinyaga, Embu, Chuka, Meru and Maua. He joined FOCUS Kenya in 2014 as STEM Staff for Nyeri Christian Unions. He later served as CMF for Nyeri, Karatina, Othaya and Kirinyaga Christian Unions before becoming the regional coordinator for the region. “Student ministry is a privilege to impact young men and women who are from everywhere. What they will become in society; have no idea.” He is a graduate of Egerton University in Bsc. Manufacturing Engineering.
