Henry Steve

Henry Steve

by Peter Kimeu / Wednesday, 13 January 2021 / Published in STEM 2020/2021

Henry Steve Ageng’o is my name, a former student at Moi University-Main Campus, where I pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Arts). My great passion for human language and the Earth’s physical Environments saw me choose Swahili language and Geography as my core teaching disciplines. I feel so fulfilled to have pursued my dream career- a teacher! Having an opportunity to positively influence the many young lives that will be entrusted to my care and mentor them unto Godliness is to me, very fulfilling.

I bless the God who said, “I foreknew you before you were born; before you were put together in your mother’s womb, I predestined you…” He entrusted me as a son to born-again parents who brought me up divinely. I admired their way of life, and so I followed suit. Singing and playing the piano in the church was the direction I was shown right from Sunday school. One time during a Sunday service, at 14 years of age, I was convicted to surrender my life to Christ and a new journey began. Being under the spiritual guidance and mentorship of my parents was the best experience I have has ever since.

When I joined the university, I felt so free to do anything I wanted, with whoever I wanted, and at the time I wanted it. Unusual interests began creeping in and there I was, entangled and sieged by “things” I never saw coming. My prayer life and desire for fellowship took a downward trend. I jumped right into a relationship that turned sour just in a few months. One Friday night, on my way to the famous female hostel J, to ‘right my wrong’ with my then-girlfriend, I heard in one of the lecture halls what sounded like “a preacher’s voice”. I felt something pierce right through my heart and after a while decided to cancel my mission. I decided to walk straight to the hall and found a congregation that I later realized was the Christian Union.

I began attending the CU fellowships and services and was later informed about the ‘Anza fyt’, a discipleship program for 1st years which was facilitated by a ‘brother’ who introduced himself as a FOCUS STEM Staff, praise God for him. My life’s balance got stable again and that’s what later sparked up my passion to join STEM as soon as I cleared school. To have an opportunity to disciple other students just as I had been discipled. God, true to His word, brought this to a reality.

I have this deep desire to bring reach out to young lives and by the grace of God help them live meaningfully, for the sole reason why God created them, to glorify Him always. I hope to walk closely with those entrusted to me during my STEM season and even thereafter. So help me God! I’m also looking forward to growing holistically through the STEM program. I pray, that what God intends for me and for the students that I’ll be working with, will be accomplished and not one left undone. I pray that God will bring my way Gospel-hearted friends to walk with me and support my ministry financially as we seek to see Christ glorified in the lives of university students.
