Francis Mburu

Francis Mburu

by Peter Kimeu / Wednesday, 13 January 2021 / Published in STEM 2020/2021

My name is Mburu Francis Kimani. I am a trained Computer Scientist, from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

In August 2016 I joined campus. Shortly after, a friend tagged me along to a Bible Study organized by the JKUAT Christian Union. By and by, I learned of the other union’s activities including an orientation and discipleship program tailored to help freshmen start off their campus lives in a God-honoring way. It is through the Christian Union that God continued to bear witness of Himself to me. Exactly 2 years later, He graciously saved me causing me to find rest in Him.

Serving God and pursuing ‘happiness’ were the two conflicting masters I battled with as a young man. On one end, I was aware of my need to reverentially serve God while on the other, it seemed it would rob me of happiness and worldly security. The authentic discipleship I experienced in the Christian Union and through the FOCUS Staff helped me greatly respond to such difficulties. The sermons preached in the CU, one-on-one conversations with fellow Christian students and FOCUS Staff, training sessions, FOCUS conferences, among others greatly shaped me. I am forever indebted to a staff who helped me through my first semester in my third year when I was given the opportunity to serve in the Christian Union Leadership yet my academic demands were intensive.

Joining FOCUS to serve in the STEM program is to me a noble task. The opportunity to walk with students who are at their defining stage in life is not to be taken lightly. However, with your support and prayers, I trust that God’s work among students will flourish. My heartfelt desire is to see them entreat their lives unto the Lord and walk in obedience. Moreover, I desire that the CU leaders will lead with courage and boldness despite the challenges they face to help the CU be effective and fruitful in its ministry to students and in reaching the university with the Gospel. With this, we will see a great transformation in the lives of the youth, families and the society at large. I believe in the goal of Focus that when we reach students, we change Nations.

I am trusting God for Gospel hearted friends to journey with me in prayer and financial support as I serve the students. I will be raising my ministry operational costs amounting to a monthly target of Kshs. 22,000. Looking forward to your kind consideration on this great calling, to see students in institutions of higher learning reached with the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and equipped for effective Christian living for the transformation of our society. May the Lord bless His work among students.
