My name is Grace Mutheu Mutunga, the STEM staff at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) and Kenyatta University School of Law ( KUSOL) CU. 

Joining STEM was one o the best decisions in my life. I came on board in January anxious about what to expect. I felt insufficient for this task. But God has been faithful and I have seen the fruits of trusting in Him.

I have become more intentional in my walk with the Lord and learned to trust Him fully.

I have made many friends with FOCUS staff, associates, and students and intend to keep them beyond this period. My communication and public speaking skills have grown through sharing sermons, interactions with students, and facilitating leadership training sessions. 

I would like to thank FOCUS Kenya for the opportunity to serve among students. It has been a journey of self-awareness and very impactful. I am grateful for the intentional mentorship by my team leaders. I am thankful for the support of my partners, friends, and family. 

Finally, as I transit, I pray for clarity on where the Lord wants me to be. May my confidence in God’s will be unwavering through this season. I am encouraged that; God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord (1Corinthians 1:9).

I am James Omongo I have been serving with Kikuyu CUs for the past 8 months.
STEM has been a gift from God and a season of self-discovery which helped me in my personal growth. The program helped me in knowing God and understanding His will. I have grown in the exposition of scriptures and apologetics during this time.

FOCUS has modeled my character and helped me realize some new skills in my time of service. Public speaking was formerly a struggle for me but now I am more confident and at ease. I have also grown in personal organization, communication skills, teamwork, and budgeting skills. I intend to cultivate these skills and employ them in the places God takes me.

This journey was made refreshing by key supporters in my ministry. God has been good and faithful in the 8 months. My partners supported me financially, in prayers and mentorship, and were very instrumental to my growth. My teammates and team leader made my experience more enjoyable also. May God bless them richly.

As I engage my transition from the staff team, I praise the Lord for a successful period of service. I hope to find spaces for more accountability and mutual encouragement in the corporate world.

My name is Kaigwara Jeremiah Ng’ang’a, I served the Egerton University Njoro Campus Christian Union and KMTC-Molo Christian union. I give thanks to God for His grace to serve as a STEM staff. The 8 months have been rich with experiences that have shaped my character. 

I was excited to join STEM because I had interacted closely with many STEM staff, including my close friends who had gone through the program. I was privileged to participate in the Interact program as a host to a Norwegian exchange student, who became a friend and a brother. I learned a lot about Norway and we shared enjoyable experiences together. I was inspired by the rich history of Christianity in Norway. This convinced me that Christianity is capable to instill integrity in our nation. 

Prayer, bible reading, and journaling have become a daily habit which has benefited my growth spiritually. Being an electioneering year the Eneza Amani campaign helped me appreciate; that my role in being an active citizen is committed to participating accordingly whenever called upon and prayerfully considering pursuing public service. 

My leadership skills have grown by mentoring students and participating in training offered by FOCUS. My team leader was of great encouragement to me. I drew valuable lessons on resource mobilization and family leadership from him. I thank God and pray for my partners who prayed for me and supported me financially, they were used by God to supply His ministry.

I give thanks to God for the opportunity to serve another year in FOCUS as a STEM staff for the University of Nairobi- Lower Kabete Campus and in the Resource Mobilization Department.

My name is Joy Kangai. I have been serving as STEM Chaplaincy at Africa International University, Karen.

I have enjoyed being part of the spiritual formation activities on campus through the Christian union and the chaplaincy department. My highlight has been the one-on-one mentorship with students, interaction with international students, and faculty members which enriched my ministry.

STEM Chaplaincy offered me a chance to participate in visitations to faculty, staff, and students, during times of merry and distress. Through this, I have grown to appreciate the value of being available to people at their most vulnerable moments, at times even without saying a word, just offering the gift of presence. I have experienced growth in my spiritual life. I have been challenged to live each day as if it’s the only one I have, to preach each sermon as if it were my last, and find joy in the small mundane daily tasks. I remain indebted to the mentorship, wisdom, and advice of the University Chaplain at AIU.

My abilities in public speaking, training, teaching, sermon preparation and mentorship have been sharpened in STEM. In addition to that, I have acquired more administrative skills. I look forward to utilizing the skills, experience, and knowledge gained from STEM to be a better communicator, planner, spouse, mother, colleague, and steward of God-given abilities to serve God’s people wherever He sends me.

My heartfelt gratitude to all people who have mentored me, coached me, supported me, and cheered me on to become a better version. I admired the university culture at AIU and desire to go back someday to pursue further studies in Community Development.

The joy and fulfillment that comes with witnessing a transformation in the lives of students are unexplainable. FOCUS Kenya has deeply impacted my life from campus days and even while serving on the staff team. It is therefore my prayer that the vision and mission of FOCUS Kenya shall be kept alive. May FOCUS Kenya live long and may the seeds sown in me grow to bear fruits, displaying the Kingdom of God on earth.
