“Upholding the Values of the Kingdom of God”.

COMMISSION 2008: IT'S FINALLY HERE!

Paul Ndungu,
Commission Co- Director

Commission is now just over a month away, and….it wont stop getting closer!

It is with delight and gratitude to God that we see the entry of Commission 2008. Even though the load of work it brings is turning our world upside down, as the organizers we are excited about what God is going to do. The indicators we are getting tell us to prepare for great things. The numbers of delegates are building up and so also is Gods gracious provision.

The coming of November means among other things DEADLINES. Every committee is working with tight deadlines, but the mother of all deadlines is this: REGISTRATION DEALINE.

Kenyans: Have you already filled and sent us your form with the registration fee of Ksh 800? If not, you have hardly two weeks! We need to have your registration fees and details form duly filled by 30th of this month. Hurry and get these to us to avoid being locked out.

Internationals: Have you gone to the website and filled in your details in the form provided? We need you all to do that so we can use the details to register you and allocate facilities such as rooms. Send them to us before 30th November. We have allowed you to put in your details only and then come on the 29th of December with your full fees (in US Dollars). Please send us your details for us to know you are coming and also for easier processes for you upon arrival on 29th Dec 2008.

We are very delighted and encouraged by the way things continue to fall in place for Commission 2008. The various Committees that were formed have been meeting and planning, and we are blessed by the grace, enthusiasm and commitment that all the FOCUS associates and staff have shown as they have worked in these committees. We are also energized by the synergy created by the openness to partnership and networking by various para church organizations, mission agencies and churches.

31st of October will remain a special day in the planning process of Commission 2008. It was a day when over 50 pastors from various denominations met for an early morning meeting and took time to be updated on commission and also to pray for the great Conference.

At the Commission 2008 prayer Breakfast, the pastors also responded to our invitation to help publicize the conference in their churches. As a result, there are delegates coming to Commission2008 to represent some of these churches. We have also got time slots in their services to tell the Commission story and the response it encouraging.

What is even more exciting is this: Almost every congregation we have gone to has members who have attended a past Commission conference! The 20 year Commission History is firmly etched in the churches. We pray that God moves more from the churches to attend Commission. We view them as critical for the landing students will get when they go to these churches, as they will have people with whom they shared the Commission experience. This will facilitate some of the envisioned follow-up for Commission 2008.

We had a successful official Launch in August for us to appreciate the commission story, where over 200 people were in attendance. The churches have not been left out and have supported through their prayers and finances. Be hooked to our bi weekly update on the conference planning progress and prayer needs on www.focuskenya.org/commission.

Celebration time: Seven Commission's on and 20 Years later

Commission 2008 is unique in that it is the seventh such conference, and is also coming 20 years after the first ever Commission conference. Thus we shall have some time to look back and celebrate Gods doing in Missions mobilization through commission conference for these last 20 Years

Kenyan Students Delegates: I know I'll be there!

We are very grateful to God that the mobilization among students in our CUs has gone very well. We are particularly delighted at the work the various CU Execs have done by appointing Commission mobilization committees or they themselves putting Commission mobilization at the heart of their activities. As a result we look like we are soon going to start warning people to "register early to avoid disappointment" when the number get to be full. In fact, plan to register now to secure your place. Many students are planning and working to be there, and more so to come with their friends. They have got it right: Commission will taste better as a shared experience. This will allow for after commission group discussions, something that will facilitate on-going follow-up after Commission 2008.

We are encouraged by the way some CUs have received this, like Chiromo campus which is seeking to have every CU member at Commission! Main campus is raising funds to send their members to Commission, and they have made significant progress. It's all about choosing to be there: Kenya Poly has already registered about 30, and Kabarak University is planning to have 100! And Chepkoilel has offered a sponsorship for the first 50 members with Ksh 1800 each! Student's, get your CU on this list-lets hear what you are doing to get your members to Commission!

For a student still considering whether to come for Commission, Consider this: Commission is a students conference by students for students: Students are participating in doing everything from start to finish, the praise team, various planning committees e.t.c are all having students -Jeremy from Medical school Nairobi would tell of his place in the Logistics committee. Subsidy for students: Of the actual costs of over Ksh 8,400 for having a delegate at Commission you are only paying Ksh 3,800! As staff we are doing everything to raise the balance on your behalf. Only once in a student's lifetime: You miss this Commission as a student, you have not much chance of another soon- you will wait for three or four years.

International delegates: "I see myself there!"

These are the words of one Ethiopian staff who recently watched the short Commission publicity video. A number of other representatives from students from neighbouring countries who recently attended the FOCUS Staff Orientation and Training SOT left Kenya with a word: "We shall return soon- see you at Commission". And Commission promises to be a much larger affair as we already have over ten registered for Commission from Australia.

We are deeply encouraged by the number of students and staff from all our neighbouring countries and the regions beyond, who have set themselves to come for Commission 2008. We are looking forward to the over 400 that we hope to have at Commission from countries around the world.

FOCUS associates: To be at Commission or be at Commission

A number of FOCUS associates all over the country and the Globe have sent word that they are sending money to sponsor delegates. This has left us with a great hope to overcome the financial challenge that Commission 2008 remains to be. We have our hearts and hands open with expectation as we send yet again this invitation: Plan to come for Commission and if not in person, send your money for someone else to come! And in these days of M-Pesa (0728344914), you will find it even easier. Any amount will go a long way. Be at commission either way!

We are thankful for the efforts the AEC is making to mobilize by getting to your branches, professional groups and other organizations like KSCF. Contact your professional group for easier facilitation to register for Commission

This Commission has something unique for associates. The content of the conference is very rich in issues professionals and graduates are grappling with. You will have immediate applications as you return from Commission. But beyond that, you can be part of the road map drawing team as we engage Commission follow-up. The blocks are geared towards forming think tank/task forces and generating synergy and platform for engagement, for we can all do something.

We are also appealing to as many as can to offer to help in making Commission a reality: Do you have a laptop you can offer for use at Commission? Or even beyond Commission? Let us know and we shall be greatly facilitated by your gift of such. We are in need of Video cameras, and LCD projectors. Kindly offer them for us through sending us your information on commissionc@gmail.com

Above all, we look to see you there. Call us or write to us for any further information.
